Manfred Seegers, starting from 2005 through 2009, studied at the Canterbury Christ Church University, U.K., where he was awarded a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Religious Studies. His topic was: “The Lord of Teachings: Life and Works of the Third Karma pa Rang byung rdo rje (1284–1339).” He then continued his study of Tibetan Buddhism at the University of Hamburg and was awarded a Ph.D. degree in 2018 with a dissertation entitled “Transcending Delusion: The Third Karma-pa Rang-byung-rdo-rje’s Discourse on the Distinction between Perception (rnam shes: vijñāna) and Gnosis (ye shes: jñāna),” supervised by Prof. Dorji Wangchuk. His doctoral thesis, published in 2020, investigates the rNam shes ye shes ’byed pa’i bstan bcos by the Third Karma-pa along with other works by the same author. His research interests lie in Tibetan Buddhist literature, with special focus on Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and art.
