Appointment of the Numata Chair of Japanese Buddhism

In July 2015, the Numata Chair of Japanese Buddhism was established at the Asien-Afrika-Institut of Hamburg University. Steffen Döll has been appointed to the position, officially beginning his work on October 1, 2015. His research focuses on Japanese intellectual history, especially medieval Zen Buddhism and the entangled history of religious and literary traditions in East Asia. Together with Michael Zimmermann, he directs the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies and edits the book series Hamburg Buddhist Studies.
