The renewed funding for students of Buddhist Studies demonstrates Universität Hamburg's commitment to supporting innovative approaches in interdisciplinary research. Benjamin Schmitz, Bachelor's student in Educational Sciences, and Peggy Bendler, Master's student in Buddhist Studies, have received funding for their project. The Numata Center for Buddhist Studies congratulates them both warmly!
The world of work is undergoing a rapid transformation due to the influence of artificial intelligence. However, dealing with it skillfully requires not only digital skills, but in particular social skills such as self-care, clear communication, empathetic listening, maintaining cooperative relationships, constructive conflict management and empathy.
The case study SECULAR INTEGRATION OF VALUES OF BUDDHIST ETHICS INTO THE WORKING WORLD OF THE FUTURE examines the potential of the secular training programme CEB (Cultivating Emotional Balance) to promote the well-being of employees in organizations. In addition to mindfulness, CEB cultivates fundamental ethical values of Buddhism such as compassion, objectivity, empathic joy and kindness. The CEB training program is modified with models from communication psychology and thus adapted to the working world of the future. With the aim of finding out in this case study how the aforementioned values and principles of Buddhist ethics affect the well-being of employees, the findings gained at the end of the research project will form the basis for the development of a CEB-based training concept with regard to the development of key competencies for employees in organizations and people in educational institutions.A panel discussion is planned for October 2024, which will ideally raise open questions, enable further interdisciplinary contextualization of the results and make in-depth research approaches visible.
Further information on the project will be available here shortly.
