Beginning in the Winter Semester 2013/14, the International Masters Program in Buddhist Studies will be offering another area of specialization: Thai Buddhism. This track will allow students with proficient language skills in Thai to specialize in Thai Buddhism. This is the fifth Buddhist Studies track introduced by the Asien-Afrika-Institut. It joins the four other tracks that have been on offer since 2011: South Asia, Tibet, China, and Japan.
The program spans four semesters and encompasses not only training in the analysis of sources in the language of the particular region, but also a focus on specific topics relevant to the understanding of Buddhism. Successful completion of the program paves the way for doctoral studies in Religious and Buddhist Studies.
