We warmly welcome Associate Professor Xuan Fang from the Department of Religious Studies and Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Buddhism and Religious Theory of Renmin University of China (Beijing). Mr. Xuan's two-month stay as a visiting scholar at Hamburg University follows his impressive contribution to the workshop on "Buddhist Concepts and Phrases in Contemporary China," funded by the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies and the DFG (German Research Foundation) in March 2023.
During his research stay, Mr. Xuan, an outstanding expert on medieval and contemporary Chinese Buddhism, will deliver a guest lecture on May 25 and participate in fruitful exchanges with various scholars at Hamburg University. He will particularly focus on exchanging ideas with Dr. Carsten Krause regarding his research project "Buddhist Positioning in the People's Republic of China."
Mr. Xuan has previously served as a visiting professor at numerous institutes of Buddhist studies both national and international. He is also on the editorial board of various academic journals. Since his research focuses mainly on Buddhist philosophy, the theory and practice of Buddhist meditation, and modern and contemporary Chinese Buddhism, particularly Humanistic Buddhism, his visit to Hamburg University is of great significance for academic exchange and further perspectives of joint research.
