As many Europeans and Asians transfer their faith from religion to science and find their fulfillment in pleasure rather than in selfless service, can Buddhism rise to provide a spirituality that uplifts both the intellect and the emotions? In this presentation, Ajahn Brahm will point to the battle in consciousness studies between dogmatic science and the meditative traditions. He will also comment on how the secular world stole mindfulness from Buddhism and how Buddhism can reclaim one of its icons. Lastly, he will use the struggle for gender equality in the Sangha as a plea for a Buddhist leadership that is both traditional and responsive to widely held current views on ethical behaviour.
